Panic wasn't quite the word to describe what he was looking at, but it was the first word that came to mind. Orders streamed out from the generals his father had sent, and Faisal had begun to realize that maybe someone should have acted a little earlier.

None of this was his fault, however. He had followed all the rules, the recommendations, and even the suggestions that had been pumped out of the scientific community at a mile a minute. It had cost a small fortune but he'd done it by the book. If that wasn’t enough to stop an outbreak, maybe all the recommendations, suggestions, and requirements needed to be evaluated for effectiveness.

He could tell there was little sympathy for his situation among the military men around him. In hindsight, he regretted not mentioning the deaths of those staff trapped in the building and at the mercy of the monsters. Prior to this, the attitude of those present had been mildly disapproving but still retained the deference demanded by his status.

Now, however, he was the object of frigid and even angry looks, although no one had said anything as yet. He had hoped to simply resolve the situation with no one any the wiser, but it seemed Zoo monsters didn’t consume everything they killed as he’d believed.

Fortunately, everyone was more focused on following the instructions that had been issued to them by the person running overwatch for the mercs. There were already a large number of military personnel on-site and now, it seemed more elements needed to be brought in from elsewhere.

Helicopters, especially, a fact that triggered real fear in him. The word was that the mutants had already breached the wall and were out in the wild where they could wreak havoc and massacre the population. There wasn’t much that could be done until the beasts were found, at which time someone would maybe be able to eradicate them without the further loss of human life.

Faisal suddenly realized that his presence in what had now turned into a military operation was completely unnecessary, but it would take too much time and effort to extricate himself. He was in it with them now, regardless of what the situation looked like, and he could tell that his bodyguards were also uncomfortable taking up space while hundreds of soldiers rushed around the area.

"We need all the heavier weapons moved to cover the damaged area of the dome," one of the generals shouted into the phone. "Helicopters are on the way from Riyadh as well as the ATs, but we might have to wait for the plasma-throwers."

"Fuck that," the commanding officer in the tent snapped. "Respond with the order to have them flown in immediately. I won't have the rest of my operation hampered because we're waiting for some pencil pusher to approve what we need. Get it done."

The other officers in the tent nodded and immediately began to make the calls. They would raise hell to make sure they had what they needed, although Faisal caught more than a few dirty glances cast his way because of it.
